Our Mission at the Concord Church

Concord Church History
The history of Concord Church can be traced back to 1832. Services were held in a log building that had large cracks
between the logs. In 1856 or 1858 a frame Church was built back off the road in the location where the current Church
sits. The land was originally owned by Dr. A.M. Powell, one of the owners of Long Island Cotton Mill. He also donated
land for part of the “old” cemetery. A new Church was built in 1898 and the first service was in October of that year. In
1904 the Church bought it’s first organ. In 1945 the frame church was sold, tore down and a brick church was built on
the same site. The Sanctuary Stain Glass windows were installed in 1946. In 1974 remodeling and an addition was
started and completed in 1975. In 1990 the Church purchased 9.01 acres of land across the road and enlarged the
cemetery and started clearing the land for a ball field. A picnic area and building were added in 1993. The Church
Parsonage was planned and completed in 1999 on the same property just out behind the ballfield with a wide patch of
trees between the two areas. The last Church renovation and addition of the Fellowship Hall was done in 2006. A
Community Walking Trail was sponsored and installed in 2017 by the Methodist Men along with lights for the trail and
the Cemetery. In 2019, trees in front of the Church were removed, new sidewalks and curbs were poured. The Memorial
Brick walkway was installed at that time. Currently there are a recorded 56 Pastors that have served the congregation of
Concord Church since 1832.
